November 2019: Thanksgiving Greetings to all Classmates

Our Latvian Chaplains in 1999

Dear Friends, The picture of our Latvian Chaplains was taken 20 years ago in Riga, Latvia! On December 4th, Lord willing, I depart Boston for Riga at the invitation of the Prison Administration of Latvia, to participate in the 30th anniversary of prison ministry in Latvia after the fall of the Soviet Union. GNJ&PM began its partnership with our Latvian Chaplains in 1997.
As we approach Thanksgiving, we say with the psalmist in Psalm 126:3, The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad. The Latvian Prison Administration asked me to speak on the subject, Don’t turn off the light! I would appreciate your prayers for this wonderful privilege to speak on Friday evening, December 6th, as we rehearse God’s faithfulness.
&     The Eurasia Leadership Conference document is attached. It will provide information for you. I plan to send out my winter prayer letter as soon as I return in mid-December, and will include a report on the trip. As you can see in the attached document, the total cost of the Eurasia Leadership Conference is $20,760. At this time, we have received gifts totaling $8,400, leaving a need of $12,360. It would be wonderful if the Lord would supply this remaining need by the time I leave the USA on Wednesday, December 4th. Would you please pray with me about this need?
nbsp;    This historical occasion is the time that Gary Franz, Vice President of International Ministry, is bringing two national leaders from each of our six ministries in Eurasia to Riga, together with our leadership team. The purpose is to provide ongoing leadership development to our field leaders over this strategic and difficult region of the world. Jon Evans, president, will also join us. Then there will be a couple of days ministering to our chaplains in Lithuania. I’m especially looking forward to spending Sunday in Jelgavas Prison, and Monday in Central Prison in Riga. These will be very nostalgic visits.
;     If the Lord should lead you to participate in this opportunity, you can send your gift via postal mail to: GNJ&PM, PO Box 9760, Henrico, VA 23228. Make the check out to Good News and designate it for 800.03 Eurasia Training. Or you can give online at www.goodnewsjail.org – by clicking Give at the bottom of the screen, choose cash gifts, scroll down Select designation and choose 800.03 Eurasia Training. If you would like to have a direct withdrawal from your credit card or bank account, please call the home office (804) 553-4090 and talk to Janet Nepomuceno at ext. 223. It would be very helpful if you let me know of your gift so I can make sure that it is tracked correctly. Thank you so much for your partnership in our Lord Jesus Christ! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Blessings!

In our wonderful Lord,

A Memory for the 60th Reunion

Nance Finley sent out an e-mail suggesting that those unable to attend the 60th PHS reunion send a written memory. These were obtained verbally and through e-mail. She sent them to Terry Gumbert and he added his artistic touch to some. They were printed out and then hung in the gym at the 60th Reunion. Harry Fletcher submitted the following. To see a photograph of the printout, click on the icon below.

FletcherMemory 2020 I have so many wonderful memories but as I often say in My claim to fame it was being a member of the basketball team under one of the greatest coaches in basketball history. It’s such a wonderful tribute that Butch White made to Chuck Daly with the foundation. Of course, the dances at the YMCA were always fun. I have nothing but great memories of living in Punxsutawney.
