ABOUT THE BAND    ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

The Punxsutawney high school band is made up of students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelveth grades. The band practices three periods a week during the regular school hours.

This organization takes a very active part in hoth civic and school activities. This year the band, pep hand, dance band, and ensembles have made over thirty public appearances. The members participate in state and district festivals, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. and the County Band sponsored by the Jefferson County Music Educators Association.

Because of the lack of private teachers in the town, all the instruction is done by Mr. Colonna, Mr. Fred Hugh, and Mrs. Elizabeth Glover.

Mr. James A. Colonna started his musical career with his father, James V. Colonna, who organized and directed the bands at Kittanning Pennsylvania Public Schools. The younger Mr. Colonna studied cornet with his father and after graduating from high school, received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. He is currently doing graduate work at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Colonna is finishing his third year as director of the senior high band and instrumental music department at Punxsutawney Area High School.
